Developing an environmental DNA protocol for Hazel Dormouse surveys

چکیده

Recording Hazel Dormouse ( Muscardinus avellanarius ) presence allows conservation and mitigation efforts to be effectively directed towards populated sites. As it is a protected species, licences are required for survey methods which disturb the animals or their habitat. Therefore, reliable low disturbance techniques desirable. In this study, we tested potential of detecting environmental DNA (eDNA) from soil as method dormice. Firstly, designed species-specific primers associated PCR protocol using tissue samples Dormice. To ensure specificity, also checked against non-target species. Next, collected occupied sites in England test methodology with samples. This included testing site-level heterogeneity dormouse distribution localised level surrounding nest boxes. Finally, changes over time, after removal site. Using eDNA surveys promising. Our results indicate that usable can developed, providing relatively cost time-efficient tool when compared existing methods. Future work should aim further understand through time. Through identifying sites, could support projects help direct efforts.

Population and individual-scale responses to patch size, isolation and quality in the hazel dormouse

Patch size, isolation and quality are key factors influencing species persistence in fragmented landscapes. However, we still lack a detailed understanding of how these variables exert their effects on populations inhabiting fragmented landscapes. At which ecological scale do they have an effect (e.g., individuals versus populations) and, on which demographic parameters? Answering these questio...

Developing a Protocol for Psychiatric Social Work Interventions

Introduction: Psychiatric social work (PSW) is one of the most important areas of social work practice. So far, no protocol has been designed for these interventions in Iran. In this study, for the first time PSW protocol has been designed and presented. Methods: This study was conducted in three phases: desk review, directed content analysis and group discussion for receiving experts' comments...

Developing an Environmental Rating System for Cars

Introduction The complexity and diversity of cars means that conventional eco-ratings such as those used for white goods, present insurmountable difficulties. A number of environmental ratings systems for cars are currently in use, notably in Germany (VCD Auto Umweltliste; Auto Motor u Sport), Sweden (Rototest), but also in the UK (Environmental Transport Association Car Buyers Guide). These ar...

Developing an Infrastructure for Sharing Environmental Models

The Internet and the World Wide Web offer a new solution to the problem of sharing scientific knowledge. Unlike traditional libraries based on print media, these new technologies facilitate the sharing of any information that can be expressed in a binary alphabet. Environmental models expressed as computer codes are instances of such information objects, and codes are the last of a four-stage p...

An introduction to developing surveys for pharmacy practice research.

Asurvey is defined as “any activity that collects information in an organised and methodical manner about characteristics of interest from some or all units of a population using well-defined concepts, methods and procedures, and compiles such information into a useful summary form.”1 A survey can be a useful tool for pharmacy practice research, particularly for evaluating qualitative informati...
